3rd Edition - EMMA HOPE NEWSLETTER
I'll keep this
one brief, as I still have a lot of stuff to do. We're still on schedule for
tomorrow at 8:15am. We'll be there around 6 - 6:30. Surgery is supposed to be
about an hour. Unfortunately, we have no idea what's going to happen after
that. I get the impression that the doctors don't know either. Hopefully Emma
is O.K. and we can spend some time with her before they take her away for
tests. I will be making some phone calls as soon as I can break away. Please
forgive me for not calling everyone, but I will make my way as far down the list
as I can. I doubt that tomorrow will be good for visitors, but I would very
much like to be proved wrong. We look forward to seeing as many of you that can
make the trip as soon as we're able to.
For those of you traveling from afar, I copied these directions from the
website:
I-84 West to Exit 39 which is after 39A. Turn right at first traffic light onto
Route 4 East (Farmington Avenue). At third traffic light, turn right to enter
the UConn Health Center (John Dempsey Hospital) campus.
Keep in mind that there has been some recent construction in the area on some of
the intersections, and it may no longer be the third traffic light. There is a
big sign for the hospital that you can't miss. Once you take a right into the
campus, continue all of the way up the hill until you come to a little one-man
guard shack in the center of the road. Wave and smile (I'm serious) and he'll
let you pass. We usually park in the lot immediately after the shack on the
right. There are parking lots up a little ways on the left and the right, but I
believe they have lots of "reserved" spaces. The main entrance to the hospital
is at the cul-de-sac past the guard shack. Upon entering the hospital, you will
be in a really big lobby and you'll think you're in an airport. There is a
large information booth on the right. If you don't want to speak to the sweet
little old ladies and ask them for directions to the Maternity and Labor &
Delivery area, you may use my directions - Continue walking straight through the
lobby and TURN RIGHT at the end when you come to a glass wall overlooking an
outdoor area in the center of the hospital. Continue down the long corridor,
admiring the large photographs on the wall to your right. One of our doctors is
up there, holding a baby. There is also a photograph of a pale, fat, hairy,
shirtless guy on a treadmill shortly before you make it to the cafeteria (I
wonder if it's a coincidence.) You will come to some elevators, just before
entering the cafeteria. You're on "M" and you want to go down to "G." Upon
exiting the elevator, you will see signs for Maternity, or Labor & Delivery, or
whatever. I forget what they actually call it. There are receptionists when
you make it to the right place.
If the delivery is scheduled, is it still a good excuse for speeding if I get
pulled over?
